Thoughts on Certification Verification

Salesforce recently added a verification process for their certifications. Salesforce is providing two methods of verification, full name and email.

Full name

Email

By searching for a name or email, a list of search results will appear. It is important to note that for a person to show up in this list, they must have at least 1 certification and they must have opted into the program through Webassessor (you can opt in through your Webassessor profile).

When you click the View Certifications button, you will be presented with a popup containing the list of the certifications for that person.

My Personal Thoughts

First off, let me start by saying that I feel the Salesforce certification process is top notch. The certification program is built specifically to prove you understand the platform. You can’t simply memorize some concepts/syntax and just pass these exams. You need to truly know the Salesforce platform to pass any of the certifications. That is true value.

Now, as far as the verification process and what it means for you, I agree wholeheartedly with Mike Gerholdt’s opinion piece on ButtonClickAdmin. I highly suggest reading his article (if you haven’t already) because it has some great insights. This verification system simply makes the certification process even better and more valuable than before.

After all of these positive notes, I would like to say there is one way it could improve. Specifically, I think adding some wildcard modifiers would be extremely valuable. For instance, being able to search for *@company-domain.com in the Email field would allow companies to showcase all of their employees. Also, searching on specific full name’s can be an issue at times (consider someone named William – it could be William, Will, Bill, Billy, Willy, etc). Allowing the capability to just search on a last name could be very useful.

Finally, if you want to get a certification (or more certifications), please check out my Certification Series which will walk you through what is involved with each of the following:

Good luck!

Important Note: It is important to remember that this is my personal opinion. As with any opinion, it may or may not reflect the opinion of any organization I am associated with.
